My world is split into a four week time frame. Three weeks of feeling pretty good. Even tempered (as even tempered as I get), positive and pretty relaxed. That lasts for about 21 days. Then BOOM! Everything changes for at least one week and I become.....impossible. It's all the PMS Monster's fault.

Men should have to experience this phenomenon, even just once! It really sucks to feel like a whiny, emotional, raving lunatic of a girl. Happy one second, angry the next and then crying over tv commercials. I just don't think it's fair.

So all of you men out there that think your woman is being hormonal and unreasonable. She likely is. BUT! It's probably not really her fault. The evil PMS Monster visits many of us every single month. If you think it's bad to be partnered with someone going through it, imagine how you would feel if you woke up possessed by the devil. That's how it feels for me.

Just my opinion after being possessed myself. Can't wait for Friday when I feel normal again!

Today was one of those amazing days that you remember for a long time! I spent the whole day with Xander and had a ton of fun! I marvel at his sense of humour and the way he views the world.

I absolutely enjoyed walking him to school this morning because I very rarely have an opportunity to do this. We usually drop him off at the babysitter's and she takes him to school and picks him up. I watched him line up with his friends and waved goodbye a million times before he disappeared into the building. He was really happy to have me there too! It was so nice that we both appreciate the times we have together. I know time goes by fast and one day he won't be so thrilled to see his mom madly waving at him! That will happen sooner than later so for now I will treasure all the public displays of affection I can get!

Jay came home and we surprised Xander by picking him up after school together! He was so excited to see us both!

After a silly lunch together we ventured outside to enjoy the sunny day! We spent two hours on his 2 wheeler bike learning to ride it with one training wheel on it. I was so proud of how fast he caught on! Only a few falls but they were hilarious anyway so it was all good.

Playing Lego, eating supper and tons of conversation. I learned so much about my boy today! Who he likes the best at school and a full commentary on "The Lord of the Rings"....watched that this weekend.

Swimming lessons were funny too! Xander is a fish who loves the water but imagine an "oaf' of a fish! He reminded me of a sea turtle surrounded by mermaids. Too funny!

Now he is sleeping and I love to listen to his snoring. I am so blessed to have him for my son and never want to take him for granted. If I am ever having a day where he drives me nuts I will pull this out to remind me of what a great kid I have!!!!!

What an amazing day! I love it when Saturdays turn out like this one. I feel accomplished, entertained and have spent time with some of my favourite people!

I woke up to Xander and Jay having a loud discussion in the bedroom. Yikes, time to get up already! Jay was off to work so Xan and I enjoyed some cuddle time while he watched t.v. and I attempted to read through some flyer's. I love listening to him talk about nothing. He is such an intense child (like his dad) and commits with full force to everything he says and does. I admire that a lot!

Sounds silly but I was quite thrilled to have my bathroom clean by 10 am. That is quite a feat. I usually spend all weekend thinking about how I have to clean the house and do laundry. It stressed me out and I am changing my outlook. Who cares if it's dirty? It doesn't have to be cleaned on the weekend and to be honest, it rarely is. Why stress about it?

Spent a good chunk of the day shopping with my mom, sister and her son. I am not a huge fan of going to the mall but today was a good time. Found some half decent shoes for Jay for a good price. Ahhh! Got to love a bargain!

Later in the day I was back home to my boys and then out grocery shopping. We go to the same store every Saturday and pretty much buy the same stuff. It was kind of challenging today because we were all a bit on edge and Jay was in desperate need of caffiene. Easily solved with some diet Pepsi; life resumed on a positive note when we got back home.

I settled down for a much anticipated night of reading and Jay and Xan gave me some "me time"! To top the night off, Xander's cousin's came over for a sleep-over. Happy kid, happy me! Of course, it is almost 10 o'clock and he isn't sleeping yet. Watching Spiderman in the basement while his older cousins snooze. I guess it's kind of hard to sleep when you're on an ice cream, marshmallow, 7-up high!

I am looking forward to tomorrow when the in-laws come for our belated Easter celebration. It will be fun too. Xander is excited to see them and of course, like any spoiled kid, the gifts.

Got to get back to my book.........it's a good one!

Nighty night!

For some strange reason I can't stop thinking about weird comparisons. All day long I stop and compare the pros and cons of "being" one thing over another. Goes back to my childhood and the mental mindgames I always played with myself. Some things don't change! Blank out your mind for a second and think about these questions. Answer with whatever pops into your head first. If you think too hard you won't get a genuine answer. The fun part comes when you try to figure out why you would choose one over another. Try it.....it's a hoot!

What would you rather be? Do you know why?

1. Elephant or a field mouse?

2.
It's a Little Thing...

Over the last few months I have made a huge effort to be a positive person in all aspects of my life. One of the things that has helped me to keep motivated is to surround myself with books, sayings and people who are on the same path.

It has been difficult at times to not get stuck in my old rut of worrying needlessly and "freaking out" over things that haven't even happened yet. Over the previous few years I let life kick me in the ass a bit too much and get me down. For a while I felt like I was spiraling out of control into a dark place emotionally that I couldn't get out of. Changing my outlook on some basic things has made a huge difference. Whenever I repeat my old doomsday patterns and imagining the worst in everything I find a way to stop myself. Sometimes this takes me a while to recognize because the pattern of negativity was so deep rooted and unknowingly became a daily habit. The glass was not only half empty but full of moldy, week old coffee with a cigarette butt floating in it! Uggh!

Now I am trying to develop new coping mechanisms and healthy habits that make me feel good as well as supporting the people I love the most. As mentioned earlier, one of these things has been to find and ponder on motivational quotes. Sounds corny (to be honest sometimes they are) but I find they make me smile and think about things in a different light. Here is a good one that I came across today:

"Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger and if you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves." (Dale Carnegie) I totally needed to come across this one today!

After a long weekend of being on-call for my job (working with special needs kids with complicated medical problems) this made me feel joy instead of dread. It is so easy to get stressed out at work or when working from home that any little "nugget" that makes me smile is a good thing!

I wanted to share this with all my new "LJ people" and hope to make your weekend a little brighter! Hope it helps somebody like it did for me!

Cheers!

Today Jay is driving me a bit nuts so it's perfect timing to do this post. He is brutally honest in his strips but you might not know some weird things that he does or says on a daily basis.

1. He blows his nose really loud. It sounds like honking. I can't keep kleenex in the house, or paper napkins!

2. He always complains about tv shows that I like: survivor, American Idol etc. but will often sit down and watch the entire show with me.

3. He puts ketchup on almost everything he eats. It's really gross.

4. Instead of putting toothpaste on his toothbrush, he sucks it right out of the tube. (I thought this was really disgusting when I first met him but as long as you have your own tube of toothpaste it's actually quite effective and you waste less)

5. He rarely answers the phone, even when he knows someone might be trying to get a hold of him.

6. He hardly ever calls him mom or sister. (loves them to death but can't pick up the phone)

7. As a child one of his nicknames was "moose!" (I think it suits him and is not a bad thing, kind of cute!)

8. He cuts his toenails with kitchen shears....not kidding you.

9. "Pretends" he hates celebrating things like his birthday but if you don't do something he gets upset.

10. Isn't as whiny as he appears in his strip.

Some stuff might not be a surprise to everyone but I think most of these things he hasn't really broad casted.

Love him to death even when he drives me insane like he is today!!!!!!!!

So, I have been thinking about a few things about the cartoon Kris vs. the real thing! The first most obvious thing is how Jay draws me. In real life I am not as skinny as he makes me look. I have stayed pretty much the same in his comics for the past 14 years. The only problem with that is now I am in my thirties and in the comics I look 20! No wrinkles, too thin, etc. He has been working on that a bit and the more recent daily strips look a bit more like me.

The second thing is my personality, which is pretty much the real me. However, he shows way too much of "Kris on a bad day". I am actually a pretty upbeat, positive person who happens to get a tad annoyed at times when Jay goes into a rant......again! I also get "bitchy" when my world ends up being drastically altered by his world. Normal married stuff: working on common goals, trying to find a balance, compromise! All of you that know both of us have witnessed this clash of ideals on more than one occasion, especially in the early years of our marriage.

Cartoon Kris is what I call, "Kristine: one dimensional" It's me but only one side of who I am. As much as I love being Jay's wife I am more than that too. Of course the comic can't portray that because it's not a comic about me alone.

Lastly, Jay and I couldn't be more opposite. We share very few of the same interests other than some music and movies. I was never exposed to comics other than the mainstream variety until I met him. I do like a lot of stuff now that I know what it's all about. I like a lot of typical girl stuff. I am a mom, wife, sister, aunt, daughter and in-law. Not to mention a good friend. I am passionate about my work. I love spending time with my family and friends. That's about it for now!

Jay suggested a good way to get this LJ thing going is to ask folks to ask me five questions. Feel free and I will try to answer as honestly as I can!

I decided to finally venture into this whole LJ word! I occasionally read Jay's journal and thought it was an interesting way to connect with people I wouldn't normally chat with. I truly am on my own journey of self-discovery and am interested to see how this will add to my adventure. I must admit that I am excited to add my thoughts on Jay's view of moments in our life. Their have been many times I think that he gets it a bit wrong; as wrong as someones perception can be.

Looking forward to figuring this whole thing out!

Cheers!
